Scratch Game Design

Scratch Chase Game

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving! This week, for GT we are working in Scratch to create both a Chase game, and a Platformer game, (Mario type of games). For my game, I had to really take out the "impossible" aspects of it, such as speed, sprites, difficult controls, etc. Plus, I had to make sure the Shark and the Diver had more appealing colors, which is the exact opposite of rainbow colors, imagine that! I also tried to make a more, realistic scenario, where the shark is chasing the diver. Make sure to play it, the only game sitting on my first paragraph!
Scratch Platformer Game

My first chase game offers 3 sprites total, allowing clean movements when moving the diver by the mouse. Plus, my game also offers a sort of levels, giving a more complex and longer game. However, I did try to make the levels harder, but the effects held on for the next player's game, holding it there for every level. My game also offers a more suitable (Ocean) background for the "flying and flipping" sprites. However, my platformer game offers over 8 sprites, ranging from 4 levels to a boss battle. It also can create clean and smooth movements, (And a wall jump..Shhh.) However, topping it in top was my freedom game. Offering a more bountiful amount of levels, as well clean and working scripts that make the game especially harder!

I really believe that my best code, (Other then the gravity script I copied then edited) were my broadcast scripts, without them, I would have no way to signal anything to happen, such as boss battles, traps, background changes, etc. Now, my most DIFFICULT bug fixes that almost made me punch my computer...was probably the gravity. Every gravity script I tried, either sinked my character underground, or made it fly up to space. Thankfully, I found and edited a working script that made my character grounded.

Invention Commercial

Whats up everyone? I'm back this week with a new project, in which we are creating a invention that will solve a common problem. My team's goals for this project was to create a portable, original, and (of course) make able product. We had a truckload of problems in the process, such as bad ideas, (Teleporting, Metal Organs,) or even having trouble coming up with a invention. In the end, we came up with "Multi-Read", this magical product gives support for reading in any situation, such as the dark, or in the car. It also comes equipped with a flashlight, a pointer, and a page flipper, as well being reasonably portable.

I believe that our best "team moment" was when we filmed the back-up monologue, It was quite fun since we all screwed up on it! For example, I once pressed the off button instead of the film button, or Nick accidentally said the wrong part of the dialogue...And of course, when we were filming and Elijah sneezed. I think that this really helped us bond with each other, which was perfect for our argumentative personalities.*Cough* Nick *Cough*

During editing, we had the idea of dividing the work between us 3, (Me, Nick, Elijah) I helped cut out the pad and adjusting the lighting so we can see our shots as best as we are able. Nick helped us overcheck the audio, as well pick the transitions. Elijah did a little bit of all, he showed us some of his personal tips and tricks that helped improve the video quality. I believe I got this shot because I simply enjoy hearing and watching our shots over and over, plus, I explored a bit to find the lighting tab. Nick is a very careful person who wants the best video we can possibly create, this helped him make sure the audio was spot on, and the transitions fit the setting. Due to Elijah, overviewing all of our work and his extra practice in KMS's Yearbook, helped correct our pile of mistakes that could have costed us a lot in the scoring round.

Composition Scavenger Hunt

I'm back everyone! In GT, we are learning about composition techniques when taking a photo, such as framing, rule of thirds, etc. I really believe that the most unique and important technique is Flat Angle, as it helps the subject stand out, instead of searching for the subject throughout the background. It also helps the audience see small objects, such as ants or birds. For example, ever seen a movie where the subject is quite invisible? As you have to search the entire screen to find the designated subject.

I really believe that the Point of View is the most hardest composition technique. As when taking it, its hard to make it realistic as possible. While at the same time, keeping it still to meet the requirements for a good shot or video. I believe the only way to use it more is to just keep trying to get it the best you can! We're human, we're made to make a few mistakes.

During this project, my team consisted of a total of 3 people. Which are me, Nicholas, and Elijah. We all played a variety of different parts in the Composition Scavenger hunt. Nicholas was the "main" speaker, he was able to clearly speak and change the description of each technique, to correctly fit all areas of grammar and spelling. Elijah was another speaker, he helped us pick useful locations to fit the techniques, allowing us to create a nice and well-thought video. And last, but obviously not least..me! I was the "camera-man" trying my best to keep the camera as still as possible as-well to keep my fingers out of the camera lens. Now for editing...I helped to pick transitions for the video, as-well taking out the pad and the not-needed shots. Nicholas helped with the transitions/music. And Elijah, helped us find all of our mistakes in the final product.

Cracking the Code

Hi everyone! In GT (Gifted and Talented) we are currently learning code, also known as programming! I really believe that programming is a very important skill, it offers many good jobs, or sometimes, very hooked up Headquarters. Truthfully, I think that everyone should learn at least the basics of coding, as it will be able to unlock doors that you can never imagine. Such as game creating, better jobs, looking good in front of the community, heh.

My first experience with coding was on Code.org, (the angry bird level) in GT. It was quite difficult learning the functions, such as repeat and move forward. The first time I saw a repeat function, I didn't use it, I just kept placing forward, then turn left, then forward. Coding is really hard to learn, it just takes a lot of practice. I mean, A LOT, as well amounts of determination.

If I could design any type of game, I would create a medieval game, where you can connect with other players, and battle your way to become the king. This game will allow you to move your character with the same aspects of a simulator. As well allow you to build your fortress and conquer other players. There also will be computer controlled thief's and raiders, in which you can capture, question, loot, execute, and so much more! If not obvious, you can be easily conquered and owned, meaning it is common you will lose, then gain, then lose once more.

My Humorous Monologue

What's up everyone?! This week for GT we will be editing our humorous video, our goal? To get the whole class to laugh! From this project, I have learned a lot of interesting techniques, as well guidelines for shooting the best quality video you are able to! Such as the Rule of Thirds, keeping your shots away from shaking, even getting a crystal clear narration! I even learned how to handle a camera, as well fiddling with its (very expensive) memory card! That feeling when you can't get it out of the computer..Heh. Plus, I had a good run learning about the deadly powers of a deadline. Especially when you procrastinate it to the last few days! Not a good feeling, not at all.

Pad is extra amount of footage in a video always included in the beginning and the ending. Some may ask, "Dose that not make it harder to edit?". My answer is simply no, Pad enforces the thought that you did not cut off any words when you stopped recording. For example, lets say you were shooting a video and you wanted to say "Hello everyone! I'm Bob.", Pad makes sure your narration doesn't become this: "Ello everyone! I'm Bo"

In the making of this video, I believe the only strengths I had was past experience of using a camera and editing, as well having fun! Plus, I had good friends, who were willing to help me film the video. However, I do have a big difficulty of procrastinating, plus, sometimes I'm lazy. The only way to improve is just to have fun with it, and get it done quickly, so your clips don't seem rushed and incomplete!

Comedy Writing

Hello everyone, I'm back! In GT, our project will be making a comedic film! We are able to access tools such as props, cameras, etc. To be honest, humor is a very important aspect for a human being! I really believe the only point of humor is to enjoy your time, as-well entertaining both yourself and your audience, plus humor is also a key to "banishing" depression and sadness. Eh, who does not like a little laugh from there to there?

To make a good joke, there is a lot of components and requirements to actually get a good laugh! For one, when making a joke, make sure to consider your audience, a joke about a football player may not perfectly suit a fan of that certain player. There are many types of jokes to choose from, over exaggeration, Knock-Knocks, etc! Always make sure to practice your joke alone, as well with others, Practice makes Perfect. When your done with the preparation part, make sure to have fun presenting it to your audience! Smile, funny faces, as long as your having fun and enjoying yourself!

I really believe that my comedic film is funny because it includes a lot of sarcasm, It takes a topic that most humans hate, and turns it into the best thing ever created. For example, my comedic film is about how "amazing" and "entertaining" taking a visit to the hospital is! Its obviously true that everyone loves getting needles injected into their arm right? Hahaha! The film uses a lot of moments that really exaggerate the sarcasm. Such as kids forming themselves in a ball shape and rocking back and forth, or even shots of someone enjoying getting shots!

Motivational Poster

Hi everyone, its me again. This week, we will be working on something called a Motivational Poster, it will include a poster with a manifesto and a few personal quotes, which will be made in Photoshop. The first requirement needed is our base, this will include 2 text layers. 1 of our personal manifesto, the other layer will have our self-made quotes. When we are done with that, we need 4 images. 3 of our personal symbolic symbols, taken to represent us, as well a portrait of ourself. When we are done with that, we need to edit the poster to fit these certain requirement, needed for us to gain points for our final score. Kerning is a step in which we edit the spacing between words or letters. This is needed so we can kern our words to allow no blank spaces in the poster. Next, is a Triadic Color Scheme, this consist of 1 dominant color equally balanced with 2 accent colors, needed for correct and elegant coloring of our poster. After that, we need Visual Balance. This gives the poster visual weight, as in being equal on both sides. This can relate to items such as our nose or eyes. And last but obviously not least, the option of Blending. This can make a letter sprout with color, or make the word italic or bold! This is our requirements for our motivational poster to get a good grade.

It took a lot of days to create this poster. First, we took our 3 symbolic symbols, then after long thought, we created our Manifesto, personal quotes and a self portrait. Then came the hard part, we had to work in Photoshop to add our manifesto and personal quotes together, while kerning and editing them to fit the entire page! Finally, we simply added the 4 pictures, spaced them out equally, and then color/highlight the words to make them stand out from the background, to do this, we used a triadic color scheme.. It was a really fun experience!

Making the motivational poster was really difficult, Truthfully, to me, the hardest part was kerning. Kerning is the tool that allows us to edit the spacing between both letters and words! We had to edit our spacing so that there will be exactly no empty spaces in our whole entire poster! It was hard considering how many properties and aspects you have to understand to kern properly. For example, I once resized my words, then kerned It to the bottom of the page until it completely was gone! Turns out, because I resized it and placed it on the bottom of the page, the program counted that I wanted to move it to the next line. I ended up forcing myself to add more to my Manifesto instead of kerning the spaces out of my area. I had to actually skip a few recesses and lunch to get past he kerning area. I think the only way to get past this mess is to simply keep your cool, and keep trying. Photoshop takes a lot of time to get used to!

Personal Manifesto

Hi, my name is Tyler Tanaka, I am currently a 6th grader at Kapaa Middle School, which is located on the island of Kauai. After school or on my free time, I enjoy swimming and playing video games, currently I am 11 years old. My favorite foods are both spaghetti and chili, My favorite drink is Gatorade and Apple Juice. My favorite animal is a Tiger, I also enjoy the color blue.

Life, is not mean't to be waisted on something you don't enjoy. Worrying for something that will happen is never worth it. Your dreams are a pathway to happiness. Don't wait for things to happen, but make them happen. Getting questions wrong will only improve your normal self. Don't be someone else, but be proud of who you are. Anything is possible when you believe. Our currency is only a piece of paper, its nothing more important then your friends. When your tired, Push harder. Getting lost is a perfect chance to find yourself.

I have just wrote a Personal Manifesto for my school's current Gifted and Talented (GT) class. My goal for this manifesto was to inspire my readers to simply enjoy life. Truthfully, you only have it once, you should spend it having fun and being carefree. Not spend it worrying or being depressed for something that you did or will happen. Just remember that there is only one chance.
